Why Rashford rejected Man United’s captaincy
Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba both rejected the opportunity to wear the Manchester United captain armband
This happened during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign as the Red Devils boss.
Solskjaer, a legend of the club, was granting his first detailed interview since his sacking two years ago.
The Norwegian manager lambasted some of the club’s players over their attitudes, saying he was left ‘very, very disappointed’.
He specifically said he was disappointed by two high-profile figures who turned down the opportunity to captain the team.
The Sun reports that while Pogba knew he was going to leave the club when his contract expired, Rashford felt he was ready to shoulder the responsibility of being a captain.
Solskjaer had no choice than to hand the captain armband to Harry Maguire.
Maguire himself suffered the ignominy of being stripped of the captaincy before the start of the season by manager Erik ten Hag who handed the responsibility to Bruno Fernandes.
