Wayne Rooney confirmed as new Birmingham City manager

Birmingham City have appointed Wayne Rooney as their new manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

The former Manchester United striker on Sunday, left his role as head coach of DC United by mutual consent, after they missed out on the MLS Cup play-offs.

The 37-year-old then entered into talks with the English Championship side after they sacked John Eustace.

Eustace was sacked despite Birmingham sitting sixth in the Championship following back-to-back wins.

Rooney will reportedly take two familiar faces with him as part of his backroom set-up, as he looks to bring in Ashley Cole and John O’Shea into his coaching team.

He is expected to meet his new charges tomorrow morning when he takes training for the first time with his public unveiling due to take place in the next 24 hours.
