Sen. Ali Ndume Urges Wealthy Nigerians to Clarify Sources of Wealth or Risk Forfeiture to the FG

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, serving as the Chief Whip of the Senate, recently appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to implement an Executive Order targeting unexplained wealth. This proposed order aims to empower anti-graft agencies in Nigeria to investigate and prosecute individuals suspected of acquiring wealth through illicit means. Ndume emphasized the importance of tackling corruption and financial crimes by providing law enforcement agencies with the necessary tools and authority to address unexplained wealth effectively. He highlighted the need for transparency and accountability in wealth acquisition to ensure the integrity of Nigeria’s financial system and promote fair economic practices.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, also expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent directive to deposit all revenues generated from the sale of crude oil into an account held by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Ndume lauded this move as a significant step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s oil revenue. Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, Ndume reiterated the importance of combating corruption and financial impropriety in the country. He emphasized that signing the proposed Executive Order on Unexplained Wealth would demonstrate President Tinubu’s commitment to rooting out corruption at all levels. Ndume stressed the need for individuals, particularly those in the political sphere, to provide verifiable explanations for their sources of wealth or face forfeiture to the government. He underscored the urgency of implementing measures to hold accountable those who engage in illicit financial practices and amass wealth through dubious means, asserting that such actions are detrimental to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
