“Police Inspectors and Corporal Dismissed for Robbery in Ogun State”
The Ogun State Police Command held a press conference on Tuesday to showcase three police officers who underwent an orderly room trial for their suspected participation in armed robbery in Ijebu-Ode. Following their dismissal, they are set to face charges in court. The dismissed officers identified as Inspector Taiwo Kolawole (AP/No 341113), Inspector John Ogbe (AP/No 309292), and Cpl Idowu Sunday (Force No 513707) were all stationed in Ijebu-Ife, located in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state.
This is just as a Library and Information Science student of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, and Abdul-Azeez Ibrahim, a suspected Black Axe cultist, were also paraded in connection with series of kidnapping and armed robbery in and around Ijebu Ode and its environs. Ibrahim was said to have been arrested on Saturday, January 27 at Imaweje Ijebu in Odogbolu Local Government Area of the state.
It was reported that Abdul-Azeez Ibrahim was discovered in possession of seven assorted guns and charms, which he allegedly utilized for his illicit endeavors. The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, revealed this information during a press briefing on Tuesday at the state command’s Eleweran headquarters in Abeokuta, where he discussed the achievements of the police force in combatting crime and criminal activities.
Alamutu further elaborated on the dismissal of the three police officers, stating that Kashimao Emmanuel, a student at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, had filed a report on January 12 at approximately 8:45 am. Emmanuel detailed how the three former police officers intercepted him while he was driving and coerced him into transferring funds from his account to an Opay account numbered 9097829766.
Alamutu stated, “On January 12, 2024, around 08:45 am, Kashimao Emmanuel of TASUED Ijebu-Ode, reported that while driving his Toyota Venza car with registration number LSD 813 EX, he encountered a group of four armed men. One of them was wearing a police round neck camouflage, while the other three were in plain clothes.
“They demanded his phone, which he refused. Subsequently, one of them fired a shot into the air, prompting him to comply.”
They forcibly took him in his car towards Sagamu Expressway, but upon reaching Ososa, they turned back towards Ijebu-Ode. During the journey, they coerced him to transfer N312,000 from his account to an Opay account numbered 9097829766.
Upon receiving the report, the DPO contacted the Opay account owner, a POS operator in Ijebu-Ode. Instructions were given not to release the transferred funds to anyone, and to stall any individual attempting to collect it.
At the POS shop in Ibadan garage, Cpl Idowu Sunday (Force No 513707) from Ijebu-Ife Division was apprehended while attempting to withdraw the money. During the arrest, he identified his accomplices: Inspector Taiwo Kolawole (AP/No 341113), Inspector John Ogbe (AP/No 309292), both from Ijebu-Ife Division, and civilian Adesiyan Mathew, the driver.
“In the course of the investigation, two additional complainants, who were previous victims on separate occasions, came forward and identified the officers as perpetrators of similar robberies. The three policemen underwent disciplinary proceedings and have been dismissed. They will face legal charges imminently.”
The Commissioner of Police also revealed that over 80 suspects were apprehended for diverse criminal offenses including cultism, armed robbery, and kidnapping, among others.
