Makinde Acknowledges Peter Obi’s Condolence Visit Amid Ibadan Explosion, Appreciating the Non-political Gesture and Stresses the Need for Investigation into the Incident, Highlighting Illegal Mining Activities as Likely Cause of the Tragedy.

Makinde emphasizes that the area affected by the explosion is designated for residential living, not mining activities. He reassures that investigations are underway to address the oversights that permitted such an incident to occur in a non-mining zone.

“I am particularly grateful because the musketeers that contested in the presidential election have reached out to me. The President has called me, and you have reached out to me. But my own party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has not called or even sent a text message.”

“And I am saying it openly so that our leaders will know that there is a time for politics. There is a time for governance, and there is a time for humanity. So, we want to say thank you so much, sir. We appreciate this visit,” Makinde expressed openly.
Earlier, Mr. Obi stated that his visit was to offer condolences to the governor and the people of the state in the wake of the recent explosion. He conveyed sympathies to the bereaved families and those who suffered property loss, assuring them of prayers for solace and eternal rest for the departed. Additionally, he commended the government for its swift response, emphasizing the importance of such prompt action in governance.
