“Federal Government Commences Enforcement of Ban on Sachet Alcoholic Drinks: NAFDAC Director-General Provides Update”
In Abuja on Monday, January 5, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, announced that the Federal Government had begun enforcing the ban on alcoholic beverages produced in sachets less than 200 ml. Adeyeye emphasized that as of January 31, 2024, no alcoholic beverage falling into these categories was registered by NAFDAC.
Furthermore, Adeyeye stated that the agency had initiated enforcement actions to ensure compliance with the policy. The deadline given to manufacturers by NAFDAC to sell off all alcoholic drinks in this category expired on January 31, 2024. Consequently, the agency commenced nationwide enforcement actions on February 1, 2024, to enforce the implementation of the new policy.
Adeyeye urged holders of alcohol in sachets, PET and glass bottles, as well as empty sachets, PET bottles, and empty glass bottles of banned products, to report immediately to the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC for handover to prevent sterner measures, including prosecution.
