Burna boy blasts Nigerians as he addresses club shooting rumors in latest album ‘I told them’
Afrobeat Singer, and self proclaimed Giant of African Burna boy has recently dropped his latest body of work, a Sonic album named “I told them”.
While The album’s tracklist is already making exciting waves, one song, in particular, has tongues wagging. The song titled “Thanks,” which features American rapper J. Cole boldly confronts rumors about his involvement in the Cubana shooting.
Back in 2022, Burna boy made headlines after he was rumored to have shot a man because he wanted to speak to the man’s wife. Burna Boy opted for silence rather than setting the record straight while allowing those rumors to swirl heavily,
But in January 2023, during a concert, he addressed the rumors for the first time, laying curses on his haters who did not want to see him do well.
In the masterful collaboration with J. Cole in the song, “Thanks”, Burna Boy lays it all on the line. He demands the recognition he believes he’s earned, for making his country proud and for setting it on the global stage. Yet, instead of applause, all he’s been getting are rumors and lies spun around him.
In the song, he goes
“Is this the motherfucking thanks I get?
Say my mama dance for fella
Say I not get baby mama
Say I shoot person for Cubana
Because I wan collect person woman
Is this the motherfucking thanks I get?
For making my people proud
