Anambra Lawyer Accused of Brutalizing Her 11-Year-Old Househelp Turns Herself in to Police
Adachukwu Okafor, the Anambra lawyer implicated in the alleged brutalization of her 11-year-old maid, Happiness Nwafor, has voluntarily turned herself in to authorities. According to a statement by Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, media aide to Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ify Obinabo, on Friday, February 16, 2024, Okafor surrendered to Anambra State Police Command in Awka.
Suspected of going into hiding following accusations of using various objects, including a broken bottle, knife, and electric iron, to harm her maid, Okafor’s surrender comes after Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, announced a N2m bounty for her arrest.
The suspect is slated to appear before the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka next week, as confirmed by Obinabo. Meanwhile, there’s hope for the victim, Happiness Nwafor, as she prepares for discharge from the hospital, marking a significant milestone in her recovery journey.
