NAFDACMaintains Sachet Alcohol Prohibition Despite Hoodlum Attacks on Officials
“NAFDAC Remains Firm on Prohibition of Sachet Alcohol Sales: Director-General Prof Mojisola Adeyeye Reaffirms Decision for Public Health
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) reiterated its stance on Monday, upholding the ban on the importation, manufacturing, distribution, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml or less.
Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC, emphasized that the ban serves the best interests of Nigerians and aims to preserve lives by curbing alcohol-related harm.
Following Adeyeye’s announcement on January 31 regarding NAFDAC’s intent to enforce the ban on sachet alcohol, protests erupted from distillers and labor unions. These groups argued that the prohibition would result in the loss of jobs for approximately 500,000 workers.”
