South Africa to play Super Eagles in AFCON semi-final
South Africa have dumped Cape Verde out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bafana Bafana needed penalties to see off the tiny island country in their quarter-final clash on Saturday.
They will now face Nigeria in the semi-final next Wednesday.
Both teams were evenly matched by quality, and the game failed to produce a winner after 120 minutes of action.
The game eventually progressed into a penalty shoot-out, and that was where South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams stole the show. The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper saved four Cape Verde penalties to help Bafana Bafana win 2-1.
South Africa’s victory means that they will take on Nigeria in the semi-final of the competition. The game will take place on Wednesday at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake.
South Africa and Nigeria are two sides that have a lot of history. The game is always a serious rivalry, and it promises to be an interesting fixture.
