Police Raid Kidnappers Hideout in Avu-Ihiagwa Forest, Arrest Five Suspects

Based on credible intelligence, the Imo State Police Command’s Special Tactical Unit, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma, collaborated with local hunters to raid a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in a forest between Avu and Ihiagwa on January 29, 2024. As a result, five suspected kidnappers were apprehended: Muazu Awuta (30), Abdullahi Abubakar (32), Ozeru Sabo (25), Saddam Suleiman (27), and Bashir Yahaya (28), all from Jau LGA of Jigawa State. The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and have provided valuable information to the police, aiding in the apprehension of other syndicate members still at large.

During the search of the forest, two decomposing bodies, suspected to be victims of kidnapping, were discovered, along with various items such as mobile phones, wristwatches, shoes, and slippers. The Imo State Police Command plans to conduct additional DNA confirmatory tests to establish the identity of the deceased individuals. Additionally, five operational motorcycles belonging to the suspected kidnappers were seized during the operation.

The Imo State Police Command continues its intensive operation in the forest and other known black spots, with the objective of eradicating all forms of crime and criminal activities in the state.
